Desk Assistant

THINK TANK’s goal is to assist students in becoming independent learners by providing a range of resources that develop students’ skills and help them succeed academically. Desk Assistants (DAs) play an integral role in achieving this goal. DAs work at our main and satellite locations across campus connecting students to THINK TANK services based on their academic needs, entering student usage data, and maintaining a positive learning environment at each of our locations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Resolve issues with customer service and facilities. Know and be prepared to facilitate emergency procedures.
  • Assess students’ academic support needs and recommend appropriate THINK TANK services.
  • Help students navigate THINK TANK services by explaining policies and procedures.
  • Provide information to visitors in person, over the phone, and via online chat.
  • Accurately capture student usage data via Trellis, maintain spreadsheets, etc.
  • Perform basic office tasks (copying, filing, etc.).

Qualifications

To work as a DA, you must be:

  • A current University of Arizona student enrolled in at least 6 units
  • Able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week
  • Reliable and professional
  • Friendly and eager to help others
  • Resourceful and able to manage stressful situations
  • Willing to learn and grow

Compensation

DAs are hired at minimum wage ($15.15/hr). After completion of training and two full semesters of satisfactory work performance, DAs can be promoted and given a $0.50 raise.

This position has a Federal Work Study designation. Students are encouraged, but not required, to use Federal Work Study in this position if they are eligible.

Mandatory Job Training

New Desk Assistants will be required to attend in person training and complete online training modules prior to beginning work. More details will be provided to candidates who are offered a position.
