Content Area Tutor

About This Job

THINK TANK hires undergraduate tutors for Math 100 – 129, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Physiology, Astronomy, Business, and Statistics! As a tutor, you will work with other tutors in the drop in environment as well as independently in individual and small group private appointments.

This is a student-friendly, on-campus position with no prior tutoring experience required. All training is paid and we work with your class schedule to determine your work hours. This position is work-study eligible.

In this position you will develop career skills such as:

  • Interpersonal skills
  • Communicating with a diverse student body
  • Deeper subject knowledge
  • Small and large group facilitation.
  • Developing and facilitating tutor training
  • Leadership roles

Our team has tutors from majors across the University! You will be trained in skills such as Socratic questioning, cooperative tutoring techniques, and how to guide students towards independent learning. You will have additional meetings with other tutors in your subject area in order to review content specific skills and strategies. This position is work-study eligible.

  • Provide drop in, small group and individual, one-on-one tutoring.
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Commit to weekly work shifts for the term, 8 hours a week minimum, 25 hours maximum.
  • Commit to training, including biweekly group meetings and meetings with your supervisor.
  • Abide by University of Arizona Code of Conduct and Academic Code of Integrity.


  • Current UA student with an interest in helping other students learn
  • Strong background in the subject you are applying to tutor regardless of major/minor
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Highly dependable and punctual.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 and have an A/B in the course(s) you wish to tutor.
  • Commitment to creating a welcoming and positive environment. Sensitive to student diversity.
  • Must be available for mandatory training in August and ongoing tutor training throughout the term.
