Content Area Tutor

About This Job

THINK TANK hires undergraduate tutors for Elementary Math to Calculus (MATH 100 – 129), General and Organic Chemistry (CHEM 151/152 and CHEM 241A/B), Algebra- and Calculus-Based Physics (PHYS 102/103 and PHYS 141/241), Business (ACCT, BNAD, and ECON), Management Info Systems (MIS 111/112), Statistics (MATH 107/163/263, ISTA 116, SBS 200, PSY 230, and BASV 314), and select Political Science and Public Administration courses!  As a tutor, you will work with other tutors in the drop-in environment as well as independently in individual and small group private appointments, where the latter can provide additional support for courses from Microbiology to Computer Science and more!

This is a student-friendly, on-campus position with no prior tutoring experience required. All training is paid and we work with your class schedule to determine your work hours. This position is work-study eligible.

Our team has tutors from majors across the University! You will be trained in skills such as Socratic questioning, cooperative tutoring techniques, and how to guide students towards independent learning. You will have additional meetings with other tutors in your subject area in order to review content specific skills and strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regular drop in tutoring as well as one-on-one or small group private tutoring
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Commit to weekly work shifts for the term, 7 hours a week minimum, 25 hours maximum (20 hours maximum for international students)
  • Commit to training, which provide progress towards internationally recognized CRLA-certification
  • Abide by University of Arizona Code of Conduct and Academic Code of Integrity.

Qualifications

  • Current UA student with an interest in helping other students learn
  • Enrolled in at least 6 units during fall and spring semester
  • Strong background in the subject you are applying to tutor regardless of major/minor
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Highly dependable and punctual.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 and have an A/B in the course(s) you wish to tutor.
  • Commitment to creating a welcoming and positive environment. Sensitive to student diversity
  • Must be available for mandatory pre-semester training and ongoing tutor trainings throughout the term
  • All majors encouraged to apply

Compensation

Starting Content Area Tutors earn $14.75/hour and, in general, are expected to work approximately 7-10 hours/week. Upon completing CRLA trainings and leveling up, tutors are eligible for pay increases!
