Schedule for Success (S4S)
Frequently Asked Questions from Students
Do I have two math classes this semester?
Technically, you have one math class (Math 100) but you will also be working on math in a math problem solving lab, SAS 100AX (that is your fully in-person class that meets twice a week, where you will refresh and refine your math skills).
What does my Math SAT I/ACT or placement score mean?
A Math SAT I score between 0-550 or ACT math score between 0 and 20 places you in the Schedule for Success program, which also means you will be enrolled in Math 100 and SAS 100AX for the fall semester.
How do I know who my Learning Specialist is?
Your Learning Specialist will email you before the semester begins to introduce themselves. If you do not see an email from your Learning Specialist try looking in your “SPAM” folder. If you still do not receive an email, please contact Cassandra Hirdes at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will connect you with your Learning Specialist.
Where can I go for help?
So many places! Meeting with your Learning Specialist at THINK TANK in Bear Down Gym is a great place to start. They can help direct you to all the various free Schedule for Success resources:
- Tutoring in La Paz Hall (Room 107), exclusively for S4S students!
- Tutoring and Math 100 office hours in Pascal’s (ILC 140), a space exclusively for students in Math 100!
- Tutoring at many other THINK TANK locations across campus (click here to view our full schedule for free drop-in tutoring).
- Ask questions about your Math 100 class anytime on Facebook: www.facebook.com/UAMath100.
Can I retest?
Yes, you can retest; however, there is a fee to retake the placement exam. Some students find it helpful to review a little before they retest. You can find out more information here.
Do I need a book for Math 100 and SAS 100AX?
No, Math 100 and SAS 100AX do not require textbooks. However, there are other required materials for Math 100 such as class notes and an ALEKS math placement access code. Check your booklist on UAccess or your Math 100 syllabus on D2L.arizona.edu to find out exactly what you will need. The UA BookStore will carry these materials and you can charge them to your Bursar’s account.
What math do I need for my major?
We recommend talking with your academic advisor about math requirements specific to your major. Don’t know who your advisor is or how to contact them? Check your UAccess Student Center—scroll down to the blue box on the right that says “Advisors” and then click on “details”. You can also find your advisor at advising.arizona.edu.
If you are currently an undecided major, no problem! You have an academic advisor too, and we recommend talking with them about math options.
What are the fees associated with Schedule for Success?
You will be charged two course fees as part of Schedule for Success: the SAS 100AX fee is $91 and the Math 100 fee is $80. These fees will be charged to your Bursar’s account. All resources and academic support are free.
